Expert view on Roberto Firmino: Versatile Brazil star can succeed at Liverpool

first_imgIn Roberto Firmino, Liverpool have landed a versatile attacker who can perform a number of roles at Anfield and has the potential to succeed despite a big transfer fee, talkSPORT have been told. The Reds have landed the Hoffenheim star for a £29million fee as they look to improve their squad following a difficult last campaign. And South American football expert Tim Vickery feels he can be a success on Merseyside. He told Hawksbee and Jacobs: “[In Brazil] we’ve only really got to know him since he was called up in November. He was an unknown to the Brazilian public until then – he’s made his career abroad.“He’s only played nine times for Brazil, five times as a substitute, but I like him a lot.“I know people will bring up the open goal he missed against Colombia, when he put a sitter over the bar but he’s scored four times in nine games, which is a pretty good rate of return, and he’s shown a lot of versatility. He can bang them in from 30 yards but he’s also very mobile. He can drop off and combine, his movement is quick and intelligent but it is a lot of money.“He’s adapted very well to Germany, so why not to Liverpool. It’s a lot of money and the pressure is on him, let’s find out how he does.”And asked whether Firmino will able to dovetail with current Red star Philippe Coutinho, Vickery is fairly confident he can.He added: “I can’t see any reason why they can’t play together, especially if Brendan Rodgers is thinking of a false nine type of situation.”last_img
