The Queensland Under 19 School Championships were held over the weekend in Toowoomba, with the competition throwing the odd curve ball here and there as teams came and went, often in an unexpected fashion. The depth amongst Queensland’s juniors was shown again, with both grand finals bringing the crowd to life and keeping them entertained until the final siren had blown. In the girls Under 19 division it was a weekend of upsets with favourites Metropolitan East were knocked out by Northern in the qualifying final, who were then defeated by the Sunshine Coast in their semi. Metropolitan West also caused a stir, accounting for defending Champions South Coast in their semi final. Metropolitan West then faced the ever improving Sunshine Coast in the grand final, with the winner only decided in the final minute of play when Wests’ Ali Brigginshaw set up the winning touchdown for her side with a brilliant pass. The 3-2 scoreline was made closer by both sides being unable to capitalize on opportunities throughout the match. Delwyn Tupuhi from Metropolitan West was awarded Player of the Final for her performance. In the boys Under 19’s semi finals, the South Coast side accounted for Sunshine Coast, while the highly fancied Metropolitan East were beaten in a drop off by Central Queensland. It was back to back titles for the South Coast boys Under 19’s side, who held off a spirited Capricornia (Central Queensland) side, 6-5 in a high scoring and skilful encounter. Josh Dwyer was awarded Player of the Final for his performance for South Coast. Congratulations to Alyce Hulbert (Metropolitan East) and Ashleigh Sheppard (South Coast) who were awarded as the MVP winners for the tournament. ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — Husky Energy is apologizing for Newfoundland’s largest-ever oil spill last month, which saw 250,000 litres leak into the ocean. The huge spill of oil, water and gas happened while Husky Energy’s SeaRose platform was preparing to restart production during a fierce storm that was, at the time, the most intense in the world. In a statement Monday, the company says it is “deeply sorry” for the incident and is committed to learning from it and putting measures in place “to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”On Friday, Husky submitted its preliminary report on the Nov. 16 spill, stating that it appears that a flowline connector failed near the South White Rose Extension drill centre — about 350 kilometres east of St. John’s.The company says the initial release occurred during the 20 minutes that crews were troubleshooting a drop in flowline pressure, and a retest led to a second release lasting about 15 minutes. The regulatory board that oversees the province’s offshore activities has said it’s now impossible to clean up the oil spill.Scott Tessier, chief executive of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, said no oil sheens were spotted on the water, meaning the oil has likely broken down to the point that it cannot be cleaned up.The Canadian Press
SHORT HILLS, N.J. — A growing number of brands born on the internet, from Casper to Indochino, are opening physical stores and moving into suburban malls once considered doomed as more Americans shop online.Digital natives are discovering that it’s become more expensive to acquire customers through banner ads and email giveaways. At the same time, opening a store has become more affordable as mall vacancies force landlords to offer flexible leases and other perks. Jim Ward, who heads up recruiting for online brands for mall owner CBL, says it can be 10 times as expensive to acquire a new customer online as it is in a store.Store openings are a major shift for once online-only brands that until recently believed they didn’t need a physical presence to generate robust sales growth.Anne D’Innocenzio, The Associated Press
Ohio State freshman forward Dorka Juhasz shoots a jumper in practice. Credit: Daniel McNatt | Lantern ReporterThe Ohio State women’s basketball team traveled to Seattle and was handed its third loss of the season, falling to Washington 69-59 on Wednesday night.Washington junior guard Amber Melgoza led the team with 28 points on 50 percent shooting from the field, one point short of her season high. Melgoza connected on each of her eight free throw attempts in Wednesday’s win, recording six in the first half. “She’s a great player,” Ohio State head coach Kevin McGuff said. “Every time we made a mistake against her she made us pay. You can’t do that against somebody as good as her.”Washington was up by as many as 10 points in the first half despite shooting a worse field goal percentage than Ohio State, 35 percent to 43 percent respectively and left at halftime with a six-point lead. Despite shooting 41.67 percent from the field in the second half, outscoring Washington 37-33, the Buckeyes could not overcome the first half deficit, connecting on 21.1 percent of 3-point shots, including one of nine in the first half. One of the main problems that has consistently plagued Ohio State this season was a factor against the Huskies, turning the ball over a season-high 21 times, killing the momentum on numerous occasions. Ohio State redshirt senior guard Najah Queenland scored eight points off the bench, making four of her five attempts from the field. Freshman forward Dorka Juhasz scored 11 points, but failed to reach a double-double in the game for just the second time this season, finishing with six rebounds. Redshirt senior forward Makayla Waterman also scored 11 points and notched seven rebounds but recorded four turnovers, tied for the team lead with redshirt senior guard Carmen Grande. Waterman said one of the main focuses going into the game was communication and said it was something that was lacking during the loss to the Huskies. “Just from the beginning of the game we weren’t talking, we weren’t communicating, we just weren’t really ready,” Waterman said. “There’s too many fifth years on the team to be like that. I think coach McGuff really tried to emphasize communicating with each other and we weren’t doing that and I think that’s what lead to a lot of our turnovers.”Ohio State will be back in Columbus on Dec. 16 to face the Florida Gators at 1 p.m. Updated at 11 a.m. with quotes from Kevin McGuff and Makayla Waterman.

Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence on FIFA’s The Best awards that saw him lose out to both Luka Modric and Mohamed Salah respectivelyThe Juventus star was left empty-handed as his former Real Madrid teammate Modric claimed FIFA Player of the Year award. This came despite the fact that it had been Ronaldo who inspired Los Blancos to a third successive Champions League triumph last season with an impressive 15 goals.Meanwhile, the Portuguese superstar’s spectacular overhead kick against Juventus in last term’s Champions League quarter-finals was also overlooked for FIFA’s Puskas award in favour of Salah’s strike against Everton in the Premier League. However, Ronaldo instead showed respect and congratulated the pair on their achievements.Lukaku backed to beat Ronaldo in Serie A scoring charts Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Former Inter Milan star Andy van der Meyde is confident Romelu Lukaku will outscore Cristiano Ronaldo in this season’s Serie A.Although he put in a reminder of what he has accomplished himself.“I congratulate him [Modric], sometimes it’s like that, you win and lose. I’m happy with what I’m doing, I’m at the same level for the last 15 years,” he said in an Instagram Live video.“His [Salah] is definitely a well-deserved award, it was a nice goal, but my overhead kick against Juventus in the Champions League was better. That’s okay though, I already have that prize at home.”Ronaldo will likely line-up for Juventus today ahead of their showdown with title rivals Napoli at Turin at 18:00 (GMT +2).
Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his happiness for Napoli’s later victory against Liverpool FC this Wednesday in San Paolo. This Wednesday evening everybody was expecting Napoli to lose against Jürgen Klopp’s powerful Liverpool side, but the Carlo Ancelotti’s team had something very special planned and gave us the biggest upset of this Champions League week.A late Lorenzo Insigne goal was enough for the Italian side to get those three points, it also served them to take the momentary lead of Group C after they got a tie against Red Star in the first match of the season.“The team did well throughout the game, we never lost control, we were always very focused, above all when defending and allowed Liverpool practically nothing,” said ‘Carletto’ to Sky Italia. “We had the chances to score earlier, but I think we timed it well. We scored at the right time… If Mertens had scored a few minutes earlier, it would’ve been more time suffering!”Virgil van Dijk praises Roberto Firmino after Liverpool’s win Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Virgil van Dijk hailed team-mate Roberto Firmino after coming off the bench to inspire Liverpool to a 3-1 comeback win against Newcastle United.“It means a lot to us to have won against the finalists from last year. It’s important for the confidence of the players, and these games give extra focus, but also some worries. I just told them to enjoy themselves, and it went well.”“We showed this group won’t just be hard for Napoli, but for everyone involved. After the disappointment of the first game, this is a great injection of confidence, but there’s still a long way to go in this group,” added the Napoli boss.¡TRIUNFO AGÓNICO DE NAPOLI!#ChampionsxFOX | Con una definición en el final del partido de Lorenzo Insigne, el equipo italiano doblegó en San Paolo a Liverpool. pic.twitter.com/wdxLMY0j7t— FOX Sports Argentina (@FOXSportsArg) October 3, 2018
Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac has announced their business in this month’s transfer window is finished to bring an end to their pursuit of Callum Hudson-Odoi.The highly-rated teenage winger had been allegedly keen on joining fellow English youngsters Jandon Sancho and Reiss Nelson in the Bundesliga this month. It’s understood that Hudson-Odoi has become frustrated with his lack of regular opportunities at Chelsea with most of his appearances this season coming in cup games. Therefore, Bayern had been strongly linked with a move for the 18-year-old after three reported bids of around £35m were turned down by Chelsea.Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic even confirmed their “great” interest in Hudson-Odoi and had hoped to bring him to the Allianz Arena this month. However, in light of Maurizio Sarri’s announcement on Tuesday that Hudson-Odoi will not be going anywhere, Kovac has now declared that Bayern will not be making any more moves before tonight’s transfer deadline.“We will no longer be active in the transfer market,” said Kovac, according to FourFourTwo.Crouch: Liverpool could beat Man United to Jadon Sancho Andrew Smyth – September 14, 2019 Peter Crouch wouldn’t be surprised to see Jadon Sancho end up at Liverpool one day instead of his long-term pursuers Manchester United.“The teams do not want to let their players leave. We have a good and big squad. I have to leave one or two at home again this weekend.”The Bavarians will take a trip to the BayArena this Saturday to take on Bayer Leverkusen in a Bundesliga match.Kovac’s side have won all five of their last games to close the gap to leaders Borussia Dortmund to six points and will be hoping to keep the winning run up in their attempt to win a seventh successive league crown.“They [Leverkusen] are a really, really good team,” Kovac added. “We are expecting a real fight at the weekend.”Veteran wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery will both be absent for the game against Leverkusen. But former Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara is expected to be fit for the match this weekend.
Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppTurks and Caicos, August 1, 2017 – Providenciales – It was described to Magnetic Media as a false alarm, the appearance of two black-ops helicopters at the private landing strip in Provo on Monday. The two menacing and militant looking choppers were said to be fuelling up, but many residents got wind of the aircraft and believed them to be sent in by the British to help with capturing those behind potentially crippling crime.Magnetic Media is told the helicopters belong to the USA, not the United Kingdom. Earlier in the day, His Excellency’s office responded to our query about a message circulating and suggesting that a British military invasion was imminent, there was this… “In response to the question of British troops being dispatched to the TCI, it would not be in the best national security interest of the TCI to disclose what tactical operations may or may not be taking place as part of the overall security strategy to keep the TCI safe. Such confirmations or denials would put operations at risk.”#MagneticMediaNews#BlackOpschoppersinTCI Related Items:#BlackOpschoppersinTCI, #magneticmedianews

When artists create something, those particular art works reflect the shadow of their thoughts, reality of their fascination towards life, and the reason behind their very existence. The perception behind the artist’s creation, most of the time, is totally different from that the onlooker’s. Moreover, the relationship of an artist with his/her creation is quite a complicated topic to comprehend. Mohinder K Puri’s works do not seem complicated to the beholders and that is what makes him different from other artists. Also Read – Add new books to your shelfA striking fact about his paintings is the firm composition without the plethora of structures. A subtle use of colours turns his fascination into reality for which one can easily find forms delicately woven into each other in his creations. Those forms depict human relationships and music– his fascination. He is so fascinated about music that once he wanted to be a musician. It is unfortunate that he could not turn his dream into reality for Triveni Kala Sangam in Delhi denied him admission. But that did not end his love for music. He turned towards Fine Art to create music. Also Read – Over 2 hours screen time daily will make your kids impulsiveBorn in Quetta, Pakistan, in 1938, Puri moved to Dehradun in 1953 to learn Fine Art. Later, he joined Triveni Kala Sangam and studied painting under the supervision of KS Kulkarni. His work on music is his most beloved and most acceptable work so far. Perhaps no one has ever created music through painting as Puri has, which in itself is a marvelous achievement for an artist. Moreover, his paintings are known for creating dialogues through distinctive expressions demonstrated in them and Puri attributes all these expressions to his interest in music, theater and dance forms. Also, human relation and behavior has remained as the other central theme in the artist’s creation. One can easily see human forms depicting emotion such as pain, pleasure, joy and sorrows in his creations. There was a time when Puri admired Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. He never refused to accept that his works were influenced by Picasso, his all time favourite. But later he realised that his own identity was getting washed out under the influence of Picasso. So he quit painting and devoted himself to ceramic sculpture and murals. He learned that art in 1960s, when the medium was not yet to evolve in India. It was a small mural job that brought him to Delhi Blue Art Pottery and he came in contact with S Gurucharna Singh, the father of studio pottery in India. Later, S Krishnan, then well known art critic, declared him as the first sculptor in India to use ceramic for sculpture. Human head is the main theme of his ceramic works. He says, “Human head is a mine of expressions, which provides flexibility for experiments.”Recently, MK Puri represented India at the ‘China Hangzhou G20 International Art Exchange Exhibition’ at Hangzhou Qianjiang International Art Museum in China. The theme for the G20 art exhibition this year was ‘Peace, freedom, and environment protection’. Two of MK Puri’s paintings with the theme of Yoga and Meditation were selected for the exhibition. The works were semi realistic and attributed the Indian flavour. This is not the first time that he represented India at an international art exhibition, in the past he has represented the country at exhibitions across the world including Second Havana Biennale in Cuba, Exhibition of contemporary Indian art at Cuba, Mexico, France, Yugoslavia and Myanmar. He was awarded a gold medal at the Olympic Fine Art Exhibition in Beijing, where he had been specially invited by the Olympic association to represent India. MK Puri, 78, still feels energetic and enthusiastic. He thinks there is a lot left to discover, “Although I have represented India across the world in various art exhibitions throughout my life, each new invitation to represent India enthralls me and inspires me to showcase India depicted like never before, especially the rich culture and heritage our civilization has. This enthuses me and I feel as a fresher to the world of depicting my thoughts on canvas.”
