La Casa en La Loma is a detached house located in the town of Sinsacate, about 55 km from the city of Córdoba. It sits on the Camino Real-trail, an old area for horse exchange and resting place for travellers heading to Peru at the time of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. Over the years it began to be used by some families in Córdoba for their holidays during the summer months.Save this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteThe lot where the house is implanted has a natural elevation generating a podium where the house perches in a sculptural way and gives exceptional visuals from the interior of the house. The main premise was to prioritise the landscape and visuals, so the house is materialised by framing a natural postcard where the surrounding landscape completely motivated its conception.Save this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteSave this picture!Floor PlanSave this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteThe spaces have a linear development and are contained by a concrete skin, with stone details and glass enclosures, all austere, noble and maintenance-free materials.Save this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteThe social area is in the center of the strip, while the private areas, that is to say, the bedrooms are arranged at the open ends facing the views. The suite with a bathroom and dressing room are separated by the social area from the other three bedrooms with direct entry from the outside, thus granting privacy to each of the members of the family.Save this picture!Axonometric ViewThe social areas are located in the centre of the strip. Linked to the entrance hall is the living room, followed by the dining room, which is directly linked to the kitchen with a marble bar, which is not only used when cooking but also, every morning at each breakfast.Save this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteContinuing with the concept of visually linking the spaces, next to the dining room, separated by a sliding glass curtain is the barbecue. This meeting space turns out to be the heart of the house, the place with more use and dynamism of the entire project. These mobile glass skins give the house the ability to be flexible and to adapt according to the uses and requirements of its occupants.Save this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteThe pool is located outside as a recreational space and playing the role of a water mirror and link between the living spaces and the natural horizon. The gallery of the entire length of the house works as a connecting link between the landscape and each of the interior spaces.Save this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteAs for the materialisation, a harmony between the house and the surrounding environment was sought for. The purity of the concrete and porphyry skins give the sensation of a large rock on the hill, in which you can seek refuge, calm and tranquillity while always maintaining the connection with nature.Save this picture!© Gonzalo ViramonteProject gallerySee allShow lessHospital Manta / PMMTSelected ProjectsVale De Moses Meditation CabinsIdeas Share Manufacturers: Sika, Electroalem, InterAlumina ShareFacebookTwitterPinterestWhatsappMailOrhttps://www.archdaily.com/928883/house-on-the-hill-abdenur-arquitectos Clipboard Houses Save this picture!© Gonzalo Viramonte+ 27Curated by Danae Santibañez Share CopyHouses, Houses Interiors•Sinsacate, Argentina Area:  544 m² Year Completion year of this architecture project Abdenur Pablo, Abdenur Juan Pablo, Alejandro Rodriguez, Agustin Castagneris, Facundo Ferreyra CopyAbout this officeAbdenur ArquitectosOfficeFollowProductsWoodStoneBrick#TagsProjectsBuilt ProjectsSelected ProjectsResidential ArchitectureHousesInterior DesignResidential InteriorsHouse InteriorsSinsacateArgentinaPublished on November 21, 2019Cite: “House on the Hill / Abdenur Arquitectos” [Casa en la Loma / Abdenur Arquitectos] 21 Nov 2019. Arnett, BT to rock Trench Town in Red Stripe Premier League

first_imgFollowing their defeat last week, defending champions Arnett Gardens will not only be seeking to return to winning ways today, but will also be fighting for bragging rights on Collie Smith Drive.Sharing the same street, Collie Smith Drive, Arnett Gardens will be hoping to share little else with their neighbours when the two meet this evening at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.Arnett Gardens should enjoy home advantage, but that in itself should not mean much if their last performance is anything to go by. Against Cavalier, they looked lost as they allowed themselves to be dictated to by the less fancied opposition.Their opening game, played at home, saw a better show by them, but that was against newcomers UWI FC, who were also beaten 3-0 in their second game by Montego Bay United.”We lost Monday’s game, but we just have to concentrate on the game at hand,” said coach Jerome Waite of Arnett Gardens.”Preseason training is important before the competition starts. Where that is concerned, Arnett Gardens failed. We had some players going overseas, some playing business house, some playing corner league, so we did not have proper preparation, so what is happening is basically preseason work,” Waite added, explaining his team’s below par performance.Despite that situation, Waite expects his players to put in a much better performance today.”The work that the team put in this week was much improved, so we should see a better performance. They are still not where I want them to be but we can still do enough to pull off a victory,” Waite said.Boys’ Town’s Andrew Price is expecting a tough game.”This game is going to be very competitive. All Collie Smith Drive games are and I don’t expect this to be different,” said Price.Unlike Arnett Gardens, Boys’ Town have not won any of their two games so far, but have not lost any either. They started brightly in both of their games, but were unable to put away the opposition.”My team is slowly getting to where we want to be. One of the things that we have been working on is keeping the lead. We need to keep our shape in defence and midfield because we have the players who will score for us,” said Price. He added: “Peter Keyes and Michael Blygen have looked sharp, Rafeik Thomas scored 16 goals for us last season and there is also the youngster, Shamar Nicholson, who should feature at some point.”If Arnett Gardens are to win, the leadership qualities of O’Neil Thompson will need to be at its best, as he, along with Andrew Phang and Leon Strickland, will have to carry the youngsters. At Drewsland Stadium, visitors Portmore United will be aiming to maintain their unbeaten record when they go up against Waterhouse, who have just one point from their one completed game.Rivoli United will be looking for their first win of the season when they entertain UWI FC, who are still to record a win or score a goal in the League, while Tivoli Gardens will host Humble Lion without the electric Jermaine Johnson. On Monday night, Harbour View will play Reno under lights.Today’s Games6:00 p.m.: Arnett Gardens vs Boys’ Town at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex4:00 p.m.: Rivoli United vs UWI FC at Spanish Town Prison Oval3:30 p.m.: Tivoli Gardens vs Humble Lion at Edward Seaga Sports Complex4:00 p.m.: Waterhouse vs Portmore United at Drewsland StadiumMonday Night Game8:30 p.m.: Harbour View vs Reno at Harbour View StadiumStandingsTeams P W D L GF GA GD PtsPortmore 2 2 0 0 3 0 3 6Cavalier 2 1 1 0 1 0 1 4Arnett 2 1 0 1 3 1 1 3MoBay Utd 2 1 0 1 3 2 1 3Reno 1 1 0 0 1 0 1 3Boys’ Town 2 0 2 0 2 2 0 2H.View 2 0 2 0 2 2 0 2Tivoli 2 0 2 0 1 1 0 2Waterhouse 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1Humble Lion 2 0 1 1 1 2 -1 1Rivoli 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 1UWI FC 2 0 0 2 0 6 -6 0last_img read more

Nelspruit seeks investors

first_img22 August 2008 Potential investors, who will also have the opportunity to co-develop a five-star hotel that will also be located in the complex, were taken on a site visit in July. The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (Mega) is looking for investors for the construction and development of a 5 000-seat international convention centre to be built in the provincial capital, Nelspruit. “The facility will probably be built to international standards and will be able to host national and international meetings like the one in Durban,” he said. “Conferences and banquets, as well as concerts and selected indoor sporting events, will also be accommodated, not just for the World Cup, but beyond.” SAinfo reporter and BuaNews Mbombela municipal spokesperson Vusi Sibiya added that once complete, the centre would support in growing the province’s tourism industry. “We are still in the process of finding suitable investors to start the project.” Would you like to use this article in your publication or on your website? See: Using SAinfo material The 46 000-seater stadium, which will conform to international standards, is expected to be complete by October 2009. The stadium is expected to host five first round matches. “Mega is acting as a facilitator of the project as part of our mandate to attract new investment into the province,” Mega trade and investment head Anton Scheepers said in Nelspruit this week. The centre, as well as the five-star hotel, is being planned so the town can take full advantage of hosting football matches during the 2010 Fifa World Cup. The project has already attracted the support of both the Mpumalanga provincial government and the Mbombela Local Municipality of which Nelspruit is a part. Construction is currently ongoing at the Mbombela Stadium, which is approximately seven kilometres from the city centre and about 12 kilometres from the nearby Kruger-Mpumalanga airport. Its close proximity to various game parks will offer spectators the opportunity of seeing wildlife during the tournament’s rest days.last_img read more

Here’s What We Think The Big 12 Divisions Would Look Like

first_imgThe Big 12 Conference's logo.Earlier today, the Big 12 announced that it had unanimously approved the re-institution of a conference championship game in 2017.The league also announced that it would likely split into a pair of five-team divisions, which drew a slew of outside criticism. What’s the point of divisions if doing round-robin? The Big 12 is clueless https://t.co/En2GE7PZ9D— Jason Brown (@JasonBrown96) June 3, 2016We decided to try and figure out how those divisions might look when they are formed. Here’s what we came up with:NorthOklahoma Oklahoma State Kansas Kansas State West VirginiaSouthTexas Texas Tech Baylor TCU Iowa StateLet’s take a look at how we arrived at these splits. First, Oklahoma and Texas will definitely be split up. Texas will likely want to be in a division with the other Texas schools, and it makes geographical sense. Meanwhile, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State fighting it out for North supremacy and a spot in the title game makes things interesting. The Kansas schools then get grouped in with the two Oklahoma programs. Iowa State makes zero sense in the South, but neither does Missouri in the SEC East. Additionally, we had to beef up the North a little bit, so we gave them West Virginia, a better program than the Cyclones. Do these divisions make sense, or should we have switched some things around? How would you have done them?last_img read more

It’s not a luxury; it’s a necessity of life.”“It is a privilege to honor Steven Van Zandt,” said David Wish, Little Kids Rock’s Founder and Executive Director. “To do so with the company of the E Street Band friends and family is just thrilling.” Wish added, “Steven Van Zandt is a great artist, philanthropist and humanitarian who has provided tremendous support for Little Kids Rock students and for many people around the world. No wonder so many other artists are coming out and paying tribute to him.”Together, The House of Marley and 1Love.org are this year’s presenting sponsors of the Right to Rock Celebration and an ongoing partner with Little Kids Rock. Ontario inquest bears echo of residential school tragedy First Nation leader

first_imgThe Canadian PressOTTAWA – An Ontario inquest into the deaths of seven First Nations high school students is raising difficult questions and themes sure to be echoed by a forthcoming inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women, Aboriginal leaders say. The inquiry, which resumes Monday in Thunder Bay, is exploring how the deaths were investigated and the level of communication between officials and families, Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler said in an interview. Nishnawbe Aski is one of the parties with standing at the inquest. “I think there are a couple of themes that have emerged from this inquest that we see a strong parallel with the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls,” Fiddler said. “One is the racism that these students experienced here in Thunder Bay and the lack of proper attention by the authorities into these deaths. There were delays in launching a full-scale search for these students once they were reported missing.” The inquest, which is being conducted in phases in front of a jury, is exploring what happened to 15-year-old Jethro Anderson, 18-year-old Curran Strang, 21-year-old Paul Panacheese, 19-year-old Robyn Harper, 17-year-old Kyle Morrisseau, 15-year-old Jordan Wabasse and 15-year-old Reggie Bushie. The deaths, which occurred between 2000 and 2011, all took place while the students were living in Thunder Bay, away from their First Nations communities, in order to be able to attend high school. Many northern Ontario communities lack high schools, which forces young people to live in boarding houses that are closer to available facilities, Fiddler said. “For the most part, you don’t have a choice but to go to high school _ whether it is in Sioux Lookout or Timmins or Thunder Bay,” he said. It’s an experience with which Fiddler has first-hand knowledge. “For me, it was the realization I was one of those kids,” he said, recalling the memory of leaving his First Nations community to attend school in Sioux Lookout and Thunder Bay. “It hits pretty close to home. You can’t help but feel that you have to do something about what was happening _ and what is happening.” Although the jury’s conclusions are not binding, the hope is that it can make recommendations in order to prevent deaths in similar circumstances. The inquest is expected to highlight systemic problems with First Nations child welfare and access to education _ areas also flagged in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recent findings in its exhaustive study of Canada’s now-defunct residential school system. In an interview with The Canadian Press, Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett called the Thunder Bay deaths a “terrible tragedy.” “Obviously the child welfare system is not working and I have already promised that we will look at it and overhaul it to make sure that we can have families stay together whenever possible,” said Bennett. “This is truly sobering, this inquest … we want to be able to put in place concrete actions at all levels of government to prevent this tragedy in the future.” Canada may no longer have residential schools, but the attitudes and stigmas that helped bring them about are still a factor, said NDP Indigenous affairs critic Charlie Angus, whose northern Ontario riding includes a number of First Nations communities. “I’ve spoken with young people who have left home at 14 and lived in boarding houses,” Angus said.“ They talk about the residential schools; they say, ‘This is what my grandparents when through.”’ Young Indigenous people are often forced to leave their tight-knit home communities behind, ending up in big cities that can be dark and dangerous alternate worlds, Angus said. “Why is that situation happening? It is because the federal government doesn’t supply high schools in many of these communities.” Bennett said the new Liberal government is looking at solutions. “I’m heartened by the fact that so many people are thinking about these things and obviously it really touches Charlie Angus’s riding,” she said. “The kinds of supports and services that are there for those communities (are) clearly not adequate.”last_img read more

Husky Energy offers apology for largest ever oil spill off Newfoundland coast

first_imgST. JOHN’S, N.L. — Husky Energy is apologizing for Newfoundland’s largest-ever oil spill last month, which saw 250,000 litres leak into the ocean. The huge spill of oil, water and gas happened while Husky Energy’s SeaRose platform was preparing to restart production during a fierce storm that was, at the time, the most intense in the world. In a statement Monday, the company says it is “deeply sorry” for the incident and is committed to learning from it and putting measures in place “to ensure it doesn’t happen again.”On Friday, Husky submitted its preliminary report on the Nov. 16 spill, stating that it appears that a flowline connector failed near the South White Rose Extension drill centre — about 350 kilometres east of St. John’s.The company says the initial release occurred during the 20 minutes that crews were troubleshooting a drop in flowline pressure, and a retest led to a second release lasting about 15 minutes.  The regulatory board that oversees the province’s offshore activities has said it’s now impossible to clean up the oil spill.Scott Tessier, chief executive of the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board, said no oil sheens were spotted on the water, meaning the oil has likely broken down to the point that it cannot be cleaned up.The Canadian Presslast_img read more

Ohio State football names captaincy quintet

Ohio State football added another chapter to its own history Sunday evening with the announcement that seniors Garrett Goebel, John Simon, Etienne Sabino, Jordan Hall and Zach Boren will captain the 2012 Buckeyes. Goebel, Simon, Sabino, Hall and Boren were chosen by their peers to lead first-year OSU coach Urban Meyer’s squad, which learned Saturday that it is ranked No. 18 in the Associated Press’ first Top 25 poll of the season. “Announcing who are team captains is one of the great honors I get to do as head coach,” Meyer said in an OSU athletics Sunday release. “We had a number of guys get votes. This is a really good group of seniors who I am very proud to have leading this team.” Simon, co-captain of former head coach and current defensive coordinator Luke Fickell’s 2011 Buckeyes, becomes just the seventh two-time captain in OSU history. Being named captain meant a lot, Simon said the athletic department release. “I appreciate the votes of the players. This is one of the biggest honors a player can receive and I’ll be proud to lead this team along with four other great guys,” Simon said. “We’ll have a really good season if we all lead well.” Simon (defensive lineman) Boren (fullback) and Sabino (linebacker) all joined Meyer in Chicago for Big Ten Media Days – the three players have been visible at media events.  Hall, a senior running back, joins the captain quintet despite surgery for a torn ligament in his foot after stepping on glass while walking his pit bull dog, “Cali.” Hall could miss up to three games at the outset of OSU’s non-conference schedule. Hall said his selection for the captaincy is a dream come true. “I was hoping to be named a captain but I was also a little surprised when it happened,” Hall said. “I can’t thank my teammates enough for selecting me for this honor.” Goebel, a redshirt senior defensive lineman with five career starts to his name, said that he too is honored by his selection as captain. “I’m excited. It is an honor that your teammates think that highly of you to name you a captain,” Goebel said. “I’m going to put everything I have into this responsibility.” OSU’s five new captains will lead the team into competition for the Buckeyes’ first game this year Sept. 1 at Ohio Stadium.
